Play Junior Girls Lacrosse

Our Junior girls lacrosse teams begin at Under 8’s (mixed girls and boys), Under 11’s, Under 13’s, Under 15’s and Under 18’s. The rules vary between the age brackets to accomodate for the development of the players so as they move up to the higher age teams the game is closer to the senior rules. Brighton Lacrosse Club take their junior teams very seriously and have a strong history of developing resilient, passionate and skilful players. Having fun is at the heart of our club culture and developing those players who wish to improve their game with the aspiration to play in the Senior ranks is possible.

No, we welcome new players and teach them the rules and skills they need. Over a season their skills and understanding of the game will improve. Previous experience, for example through the schools programs and inter-school competitions will help players get a basic grasp of how to play but through regular training and playing on weekends they will become more skilled.

The game locations will vary and move between all of the lacrosse clubs in that age bracket. You can look at the lacrossesa.com.au website for previous game fixtures to see where they are played.

This varies depending on the age of the player. Under 8’s are supplied with their own stick upon registering for the season. U11’s through to U18’s are all required to wear proper fitting mouth guards (available through most dentists) and lacrosse goggles. All players will need their own lacrosse stick, water bottle and cleats are recommended for field traction. Numbered Brighton Club uniform tops are supplied but a black skirt will be required by all players.

All players are required to pay Subs for the season. New Junior players all receive a brand new stick and ball as part of their membership. Please refer to Junior playing fees on the Membership & Fees page for up to date costs.

All of the teams in the Junior Gils competition are girls-only, with the exception of Under 8’s where the teams are mixed.

Yes — lacrosse is considered a very safe sport for junior girls, especially at Brighton Lacrosse Club. The junior girls’ game uses non-contact rules, and all players are coached in safe stick skills, spatial awareness, and good game habits from day one.

At Brighton, safety is a top priority:

  • All junior players  (except U8’s) must wear mouth guards and  protective eyewear

  • Qualified, experienced coaches run every session and ensure girls learn correct skills and techniques in a supportive environment

  • Training sessions focus on movement, teamwork and skill-building, not heavy contact

  • Our club follows all Lacrosse SA safety guidelines for junior players

Lacrosse is a fantastic way for girls to stay active, build confidence, and learn new skills — all within a safe, supervised and encouraging team environment.

There are several opportunities for our junior boys to extend their skills and knowledge of the game, including:

  • State/Zone Under 15 Championships held in October on an annual basis, where the boys try out for a team and then if selected will travel interstate to play (unless the championship is here in Adelaide).
  • Under 18 State Championships – similar to the U15 competition discussed above, the Under 18 Girls & Boys State Championships are held annually over the Easter break around Australia (each year varies).
  • Under 20 Women’s World Lacrosse Championships – these are held every 4 years where the girls are selected to attend a lacrosse camp to try out for the Australian Under 20 team.  You can keep up to date by following Lacrosse Australia on their socials and website.
  • Plus there are often skill camps with international players during the season or school holidays that take place.
